Family Law Project

The project is a pilot awareness project on Canadian Family Law for Arabic-speaking newcomers. The project addresses what Family Law in Canada stipulates, and the commonalities and differences between Canadian Family Law and Sharia Law. Two creative videos on a knowledge gap identified out of a focus group discussion with the Arab communities we serve will be disseminated on social media in Arabic. This video is intended to draw viewers to a video e-learning module that will provide more information on the topic. QED has created 5 videos in the following topics:

1. Canada’s Fundamental Freedoms

2.The Convention on the Rights of the Child

3.Child protection in Islam

4.The child and family services act

5.Umm Ola and the laundry (case study video),

All can be found on our YouTube channel or our Facebook page. As our many other e-learning productions as well. This project aims to demonstrate this approach to raising awareness on this issue among Arabic-speaking newcomers to Canada. We plan to pursue a larger scale awareness project upon completion of the project, which is beyond the scope of this grant, that addresses other issues identified out of the focus group.
