ENGLISH TUTORING PROGRAM
ELP
English Tutoring Program is a supplementary English language program led by our partner organization – the Syrian Canadian Foundation (SCF) – for beginner level ESL learners that are unable to attend regular English classes for personal or logistical reasons. The lessons bring real life scenarios through communicative lessons that engage the learners on four skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing). The lessons have been uploaded onto QED’s platform and are easily accessible to those who are registered in the program.
The English Tutoring Project has three main components: group sessions, one-on- one sessions, and development of e-learning resources. QED, in collaboration with Hand in Hand at University of Toronto Mississauga, developed modules for beginner levels. To date we have enough modules to cover 32 weeks, or two semesters of our classes.
The group sessions had between 10 to 15 participants, with 25 volunteers in total in all classes. As for the at home sessions, we have 20 participants and 20 volunteers.
In 2018, the English Tutoring Program has been hosted in different cities across the GTA, including Mississauga, Scarborough, and Toronto.
