The project is a pilot awareness project on Canadian Family Law for Arabic-speaking newcomers. The project addresses what Family Law in Canada stipulates, and the commonalities and differences between Canadian Family Law and Sharia Law. Two creative videos on a knowledge gap identified out of a focus group discussion with the Arab communities we serve will be disseminated on social media in Arabic. This video is intended to draw viewers to a video e-learning module that will provide more information on the topic. This project aims to demonstrate this approach to raising awareness on this issue amongst Arabic-speaking newcomers to Canada. We plan to pursue a larger scale awareness project upon completion of the project, which is beyond the scope of this grant, that addresses other issues identified out of the focus group.
